Huda Beauty Lip Contour Set

The minute something is hyped — whether it be a brand (yup, I was a Colour Pop skeptic), a new type of product (remember iPods?), or some crazy food item (here’s looking at you cronuts); I’m automatically turned off and then I wait for the hype to die down. After the hype has died down, I think clearly, and usually go ahead and try it. When I found out that the Huda Beauty would be extending their product lines beyond false lashes, I thought, “Yes they might make something I like”. By the Sephora Fall VIB Sale, I decided to take a chance on the Liquid Matte Lipsticks. I’m impressed.

Huda Beauty’s liquid lipstick formula feels more like that of ABH Cosmetics and thinner than Kat Von D; but not mousse-y like NYX Cosmetics Soft Matte Lip Cream and not thick like Tarteist Matte Lip Paint. With just one coat I got opacity on both lips and simply built it up out of habit rather than necessity. It feels very comfortable on the lips and the wearability was average — nothing mindblowing. It stays in place until it comes in any kind of contact with oil, e.g. any oils in your food, or an oil based makeup remover, while water does not affect it staying in place.

There was no bleeding (most likely because I used the Huda Beauty liner with it) and for some reason I like the smell of these, there’s a slight hint of vanilla (but still different in scent from MAC lipsticks).

The real stand out product for me is the lip liner. I may or may not be considering purchasing almost every shade available. As much as I enjoy Aqua Lip liner by Make Up For Ever, I have never tried another lip liner that applies as smooth and creamy as the Huda Beauty liner in Vixen. Lip liners with a creamy consistency instead of being a regular lip pencil, are formulated to have a longer wear; Huda Beauty Lip Contour is next level smooth on the lips and very pigmented. You could get away with doing just the Lip Contour without the Liquid Lipstick; it dries down just as matte despite the creaminess when applying, while still giving fully opaque colour. This set is perfect for those who like variety, or for someone like me who likes to try new formulas without committing to full size items.
