L.A. Girl Pro Conceal: Worth The Hype?

If you ask me (which no one usually does) I think one of the factors that deters people from purchasing certain beauty items, is the cost. I love a good concealer, and I have loved concealer ever since I discovered it at the beginning of 2012. Now don’t get me wrong, as much as I think NARS Radiant Creamy Concealer is the real deal, and I do think MAC Pro Longwear Concealer is an amazing multi-tasker as well…not everyone is able, or even willing, to spend that amount on one item. That’s totally okay. Do you have $5 to spare maybe? Because that’s where L.A. Girl Pro Conceal just heard your wallet’s cry. These had been hyped up for months so when I finally found them in Toronto I had to try a few shades. You can read my initial thoughts on GC980 Cool Tan here from Fall 2014.

Originally I had gotten 984 Toffee to try as a dupe for MAC’s Pro Longwear Concealer in NC45, while 980 Cool Tan was supposed to be my highlight shade and 985 Espresso would be my contour shade.

From top to bottom: GC985 Espresso. GC984 Toffee, and GC980 Cool Tan

Are they good for under the eyes? Yes, the creamy consistency makes them easy to blend. They give good coverage, at the fraction of the cost of a high-end concealer; creasing can be fixed with powder and there was no under eye dryness. Are they good for contouring? Yes. The applicator allows for precise product placement in the hollows of the cheeks and around the temples; the caveat here is how quickly they dry. Be sure to work with only one side at a time, blend well, and ensure that your skin has been properly moisturized and primed because these will stick to any dry patches you have. Another note on usage is that these do not exactly double up well as an eye primer. Some concealers are fit for this purpose, but L.A. Girl Pro Conceal unfortunately does not fall into this category.

I was also impressed with how many darker shades they have available because this is always a plus for my chocolate beauties! All in all I don’t think these concealers are bad, but you definitely have to know what you’re doing. i.e. Before using under the eyes, ensure you’ve applied an eye cream, and when using for contour and highlight, ensure that you’ve moisturized your skin. Even looking beyond the fact that these only contain 0.25oz of product, this is justified by the low price point in my opinion. Having said all that, I think that if you already have your tried and true concealer, you won’t necessarily need to pick these up. These concealers can easily be enjoyed by both beginners and beauty junkies alike. However I think ideally, beginners may enjoy them the most; less money spent, and ease of use.
