NYX Butter Glosses have been on the market for some time now, however, it’s almost impossible to find them here in Toronto. Recently, I was able to purchase a few and or course, I’ll be giving my thoughts.
I picked these up in the shades Cherry Cheese Cake, Raspberry Tart and Creme Brulee. These are creamy enough without feeling sticky, and after a few hours I didn’t have that unsightly white line on my lips. They retail for 4.99 (before taxes) at Walgreens, CVS Pharmacy and Target — I didn’t see them at Wal Mart.
One night I went to Target and got lucky — they had Raspberry Tart and Cherry Cheese Cake on clearance for $1.48 — so of course I bought both shades! Therefore Creme Brulee was the only the shade I had paid full price for — this was bought the day before at Walgreens.
Creme Brulee is a very light, pink-toned, beige-y nude shade that would work well with fair to olive skin tones. For darker skintones (such as myself — NC45) you may want to use a nude liner before applying this; perfect for everyday wear.
Cherry Cheese Cake seems a bit intimidating in the tube, but when applied it resembles a light tangerine shade — not so much coral, because there really isn’t any pink as far as I can see; still very pretty though.
Lastly, Raspberry Tart (my least favourite) is a bit hard to explain. When applied, it appears as a shade that is having a hard time if it wants to be a magenta shade, or full on join the purple team.
The packaging is simple without being boring, even though you have to actually open it and look at the wand to see exactly what the colour will look like — looking online doesn’t do these colours much justice.
If you’ve ever been to the ice-cream shop at Devon House (Kingston, Jamaica), the first thing that comes to mind when you open one of these is Devon Stout ice cream. They all smell so amazing!
They apply quite nicely, and the color payoff isn’t too bad for $5. They’re fairly pigmented to be honest, but to really obtain some opacity I had to use 2 coats, which is fine because that’s how I apply most lip products in any case. I’m glad I went ahead and tried these out, even though I still have my eyes on Tiramisu, Merengue and Cupcake.
