Again I’m impressed with one of Maybelline’s eye products, but this time it’s an eye shadow and not a mascara. The first time I saw Color Tattoo being advertised – this was 2012 I think…or maybe late 2011; I can’t remember (my apologies). What I can say though, is that they got the ‘tattoo’ bit down pat, because this really stands up to the 24 hour claim! Whether you’re a makeup newbie/beginner, a junkie like myself or you just want to try something new, this is a great drugstore purchase.
The first line of Color Tattoos had brighter colours, such as orange, purple, and a bright blue that almost resembles turqoise – I wasn’t entirely sold because I couldn’t really figure out how to use them. The second set from what I can remember were the Color Tattoo Metals – this is where Electric Blue comes in. I saw the vivid navy blue shade and I just had to have it! If you’re looking for a cream shadow that is royal blue or a cobalt blue, this is not it; this is a cream navy blue eyeshadow. There’s also a line of nude Color Tattoos but I haven’t tried any of those shades; they look like perfect alternatives to MAC Paint Pots.
This is one of those products where a little goes a long way, so use it sparingly; I’ve had mine since January 2013 and it’s not even halfway through. The pigmentation, lack of creasing and longevity in this are also quite impressive. I use it without a primer and even after I try removing it with eye makeup remover, there’s always a little bit left the morning after.
How to use Color Tattoo:
- As a lid base for a black/navy blue smokey eye
- As a base for your eye pigments
- All over in a slightly ombre effect – pack most of the colour onto the lid, and use the leftover product on the crease (tap very lightly)
- On the lid and with a different shade of blue liner on the lower lash line, such as Covergirl’s Liquiline Blast in Blue Bloom or Sephora’s Contour Waterproof Liner in Summer Cruise
- Top this off with a bright pink or nude lip
This is definitely a good drugstore investment purchase, because even if you don’t like Electric Blue there are so many other shades! And Color Tattoo can easily be bought anywhere that sells Maybelline products.
